What is VPNtunnel?
VPNTunnel is a service that connects you directly to the Internet via an encrypted 'tunnel', bypassing restrictions caused by proxies, censorship, firewalls and traffic filtering/shaping. It gives you a full, unrestricted Internet connection which you can use with almost any application.
How does it work?
VPNTunnel works by connecting to our secure servers in the same way your browser does when you visit a secure website (where a padlock is shown in the corner of the screen). Once the connection is established, a virtual network card is created on your computer, which connects you directly to the Internet with no restrictions or censorship - it's exactly the same as running a (very long) network cable to a friend's house, only it uses your existing restricted connection!
How much does it cost?
VPNTunnel costs £10 a month for 30 days or 50GB of transfer, whichever comes first. You can buy as many of these 'topups' as you want in a monthly period, so you can use as much as you like. See our About Page for more information.
What programs does it work with?
VPNTunnel works with most applications that use TCP/IP. TCP/IP is a standard network protocol used by over 99% of applications today - for the more technical among you, it can support the TCP, UDP, ICMP and ARP protocols in their entirety, no catches.
Is VPNTunnel blockable by my ISP?
Due to the nature of the service, VPNTunnel is very difficult and time-consuming for ISPs to block entirely. We use a dedicated network of many servers to ensure constant availability, and our software is designed to find unblocked servers automatically. However, they can block access to the VPNTunnel website - which may mean you will need to use another connection (or a free proxy such as Vtunnel to view the website). However, you only need to do this when subscribing or downloading the client software - the client will automatically negotiate a connection for you.
What Operating Systems does VPNTunnel work on?
VPNtunnel works on Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and all forms of Linux. A Mac OS X version is currently under development - if you raise a ticket in the support area, we can notify you as soon as it's complete.
What are the system requirements?
You must have a computer with an existing Internet connection that allows you to view secure websites (such as https://www.paypal.com/). You will need administrative privileges on the computer you wish to install the client on. VPNTunnel uses about 2-3MB of memory in use, and requires less than 10MB of disk space.
How much can I use it? Are there any restrictions?
Usage of VPNTunnel is limited only by your bandwidth allowance. This means that providing you continue to top up your account, you can use as much bandwidth in a month as you like.
How fast is VPNTtunnel?
As fast as your connection can handle! If your connection allows it, you can get 100 Mbps download and upload speeds over VPNTunnel! However, as the service is relying on your existing Internet connection, it cannot go any faster than your connection permits. On a good connection, you can expect speeds of 2 Mbps to 10 Mbps, both up and down. Our speed test will show you what speeds to expect on your current connection.
